Across the Peruvian Amazon, 450 children and 111 elders are waiting to experience something they have never known before—the joy and dignity of their first Christmas celebration. This year, the Indigenous communities of Sampaya, Bajo Masisea, La Colpa, and Santa Rosa de Runulla sent a handwritten letter asking for support. Their message is clear: “We want to celebrate Christmas together for the first time.”

Our organization believes no call for hope should go unanswered.
Let No Letter Go Unanswered This Christmas is our commitment to honor their request by delivering meaningful Christmas gifts, food baskets for elders, and community activities that strengthen cultural identity and unity.

Your generosity can transform this historic moment. With your help, we can purchase toys, learning games, sports balls, dolls, puzzles, and essential food supplies. More than material items, your contribution delivers belonging, dignity, and joy to families who have long been isolated due to geographic barriers.

To make a direct impact, please consider making a donation today. https://agapehands.org/let-no-letter-go-unanswered-this-christmas/

Every contribution—large or small—becomes part of a collective effort to ensure that these communities feel seen, valued, and supported. Together, we can ensure that no letter, no dream, and no child is left without the chance to celebrate Christmas.

Join us in creating a celebration they will remember forever. https://agapehands.org/let-no-letter-go-unanswered-this-christmas/

In the remote highlands of Peru, hunger does not always shout. Sometimes it walks quietly—step by step—across mountains and dirt paths. This is the daily reality for many elders like Doña Rosa, a woman in her late seventies who lives alone in an isolated rural community. To find a warm meal, she must walk more than two hours under the sun or cold wind. Her story is not an exception; it is a reflection of a much deeper problem.

Across Peru, thousands of older adults in rural and Amazonian regions live with severe food insecurity, surviving without a stable income, nearby markets, or access to social programs. Many depend entirely on irregular harvests or on the kindness of neighbors who are also struggling. According to national data, a significant percentage of rural households face food scarcity at least once a week, and elders are the most affected.

This Giving Tuesday, AGAPE HAND is raising its voice for them through the Solidarity Baskets Program, a community-driven effort that provides nutritious food baskets to families and elders living in extreme poverty and isolation. These baskets include essentials such as oats, rice, oil, legumes, pasta, and other staples that ensure a family can eat with dignity for several days.

We do not portray vulnerability to provoke pity. Our mission is based on dignity, respect, and solidarity—values that remind us that every human being deserves access to food, care, and presence. When our team visits communities like Doña Rosa’s, we bring more than food: we bring connection, conversation, and a reminder that no one is forgotten.

Your participation in Giving Tuesday allows us to reach more isolated districts, more abandoned elders, and more families struggling with silent hunger. Together, we can strengthen a food bank model adapted to rural Peru—one that prioritizes community participation and long-term resilience.

This Giving Tuesday, transform gratitude into impact.
Let your generosity reach families who live far beyond the cities, where hunger remains unseen.

Deep in remote communities, where modernity barely reaches, thousands of elderly people survive with the little they can find. They have no access to food, decent medical care, or even the company of a family member. Malnutrition and anemia are silently taking their lives.

One such case is that of Grandma Luisa, a woman who has lived most of her life in extreme loneliness. Her story is heartbreaking. Many years ago, she lost her sister and, with that, took on the responsibility of raising her nephew as if he were her own son. However, tragedy struck again: her nephew also passed away, leaving her in total abandonment. Since then, she has lived in inhumane conditions, in a deteriorated house, with a dangerous floor and an unsafe roof. She barely remembers her age, but what she does remember is the cold, hunger, and the sadness of being completely alone.

A Reality We Cannot Ignore

Cases like Grandma Luisa’s are repeated in many remote communities. Thousands of elderly people live in misery, without attention, without health care, and without access to basic food. How many more must suffer before we take action?

At AGAPE HAND, we work every day to reach these forgotten individuals, bringing food, warmth, and improving their living conditions. But the need is enormous, and we cannot do it alone.

You Can Be Part of the Change!

You have the power to change Grandma Luisa’s story and that of many others who, like her, have been forgotten by society. Your donation, no matter how small, can mean a plate of food, a blanket against the cold, or the repair of a home.

Let’s not allow more elderly people to die in abandonment. Share this story, donate, be part of the solution. Together, we can bring hope to those who need it most.

At Agape Hand, we believe that true compassion is not only expressed through immediate help, but in building a strong, transformative support network that empowers people to overcome their challenges and achieve a better future. Today, in partnership with the Food Bank, we are paving the way for a more just future, where solidarity, social awareness, and sustainability go hand in hand.

Our joint effort aims to address one of society’s most urgent issues: hunger. But we don’t stop there. We know that poverty and social inequality are complex and multidimensional, so we aim to offer not only food but also the tools necessary for people to regain their dignity and autonomy. In this regard, the Food Bank does not just distribute basic products, it also serves as a space for shared compassion, where the community comes together to generate real and sustainable solutions.

Compassion in Action: The Essential Role of Food Banks

Food Banks play a crucial role in our communities, and in our partnership with them, we aim to go beyond just food distribution. We know that the delivery of resources is only the first step in alleviating suffering. Real transformation begins with the active involvement of everyone: volunteers, businesses, families, and communities. Every person who contributes—whether with time, food, or resources—becomes part of a support chain that creates a collective impact.

At Agape Hand, we work to ensure that each action, no matter how small it seems, is a step towards building a more just society, where hunger becomes a concern of the past and solidarity drives social change. This means we focus not only on providing food, but also on fostering education that allows people to make more informed decisions about nutrition, healthy habits, and resource management.

Challenges and Opportunities for a Sustainable Future

The path to a future without hunger is challenging, but not impossible. We face obstacles such as social inequality, food waste, and lack of access to basic resources, which perpetuate cycles of poverty and exclusion. However, every challenge we encounter is also an opportunity to do things differently and create innovative solutions.

Through our partnership with the Food Bank, we have the opportunity to harness food surpluses that, instead of being wasted, are redistributed to those who need them most. This approach not only tackles hunger immediately but also addresses ecological issues by reducing waste and promoting more responsible consumption. Together, we can help create a circular food model where resources are shared and redistributed efficiently, benefiting both people and the environment.

The Impact of Solidarity: A Transformative Future

The impact of our collaboration with the Food Bank goes beyond food delivery. By involving the entire community in the fight against hunger, we create a multiplier effect that strengthens social bonds and promotes inclusion. We know that when people feel supported, they can take control of their future. In this way, we not only help relieve hunger in the present, but also plant the seeds for a sustainable future where social justice and equality are the foundation of society.

In the long term, our efforts aim to transform the way we understand poverty and hunger. We want every person who receives help to not just see food as a resource, but as an act of love and support from a community that cares about their well-being and dignity.

A Call to Action: Join Us

The work we do at Agape Hand alongside the Food Bank is only possible thanks to the unwavering support of people like you. We invite you to join us in this cause and make a difference. Your support can come in the form of food donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about our mission so that more people can join this collective effort.

Solidarity is what connects us as humanity, and together we can create a more inclusive future, where compassion is not just an act of generosity but a daily practice that transforms the world. We cannot do it alone, but together, we can make hunger, inequality, and social injustice things of the past.

Do your part. Together, we can make a difference.

Caring for the elderly is a noble task that requires patience, empathy, and understanding. As our loved ones age, they may experience difficulty performing routine tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and even feeding themselves. This is where caregivers and family members can step in to assist and ensure that their loved ones receive the proper nutrition they need.

Feeding the elderly requires more than just providing them with food. It is essential to understand their dietary needs, preferences, and any medical conditions that may affect their diet. Here are some tips on how to help feed the elderly.

Plan Meals Ahead of Time

Planning meals ahead of time can help ensure that the elderly receive a balanced and nutritious diet. This can also help reduce stress for caregivers who may struggle with deciding what to cook each day. Meal planning can involve creating a weekly or monthly meal plan and ensuring that there is a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains in the diet.

Consider Dietary Restrictions and Medical Conditions

Many elderly individuals may have dietary restrictions or medical conditions that require them to follow specific diets. For example, some may need to follow a low-sodium or low-fat diet to manage their blood pressure or cholesterol levels. Others may have difficulty chewing or swallowing, which may require a softer or pureed diet. Caregivers should be aware of these restrictions and ensure that the meals they prepare are appropriate for their loved one’s needs.

Use Nutritional Supplements

In some cases, the elderly may have difficulty consuming enough nutrients from their diet. Nutritional supplements such as protein shakes or vitamin supplements can help provide the extra nutrients that their bodies need. However, it is important to consult with a doctor before adding any supplements to their diet.

Make Meals Social and Enjoyable

Mealtimes can be an excellent opportunity for socialization and connection with loved ones. Caregivers can make mealtimes enjoyable by setting the table nicely, playing music, or engaging in conversation. This can help the elderly feel more connected and involved in the meal, making it a more enjoyable experience.

Use Adaptive Equipment

Elderly individuals who have difficulty using utensils or have limited mobility may benefit from adaptive equipment. This can include special plates, utensils, or cups that are easier to grip and use. Caregivers can consult with an occupational therapist or speech therapist to determine what equipment would be most helpful for their loved one.

Provide Assistance, but Respect Independence

Finally, it is essential to respect the elderly’s independence while also providing assistance when needed. This can involve helping them prepare meals, cutting their food, or assisting with feeding. However, caregivers should also allow their loved ones to do as much as they can on their own to maintain their independence and sense of dignity.

In conclusion, caring for the elderly requires a thoughtful and compassionate approach, especially when it comes to feeding them. By planning meals ahead of time, considering dietary restrictions and medical conditions, using nutritional supplements, making mealtimes enjoyable, using adaptive equipment, and respecting their independence, caregivers can help ensure that their loved ones receive the proper nutrition they need while also maintaining their dignity and independence.
