In many parts of Latin America, old age is a chapter marked by abandonment, illness, and food insecurity. But some stories break that cycle. Today, we want to share one: the story of Rosa, a resilient grandmother who found a second chance at life through Ágape Hand.

Rosa is 74 and lives in a rural area where access to healthcare and proper nutrition is limited. For years, she survived on the little she could grow and occasional help from neighbors. Age-related illnesses like arthritis and chronic malnutrition slowly robbed her of mobility and hope. Like many elderly people, she became invisible.

Everything changed the day an Ágape Hand volunteer reached her community. Through our health and nutrition program for the elderly, Rosa began receiving medical care, nutritional supplements, and balanced food rich in iron, vitamins, and proteins. She also received something just as vital: companionship, dignity, and human connection.

Within weeks, Rosa gained weight, walked more confidently, and, most importantly, began smiling again. She now actively participates in our community events and inspires other seniors to believe that it’s never too late to reclaim life.

At Ágape Hand, we believe every life matters. Grandmothers like Rosa deserve not just to live, but to thrive—with dignity, health, and joy. That’s why our programs go beyond basic needs; we build human relationships that heal from within.

Your support helps us continue writing stories like Rosa’s. With every donation, we reach more forgotten communities, more elderly people in need, and more lives waiting to be transformed.

On this Labor Day, at AGAPE HAND, we honor not only those with formal employment but also those who work simply to survive. The invisible ones. The people who, in the midst of abandonment, poverty, and exclusion, continue striving every day to feed their families. To them, we offer our deepest respect.

In the most remote rural communities of Peru —from Huasahuasi, Tarma, and Huancavelica to Tingo María, Pucallpa, and native communities like the Shipibo and Asháninka— there are people who don’t celebrate this day with rest, but with effort. Mothers who plant crops, grandmothers who weave so they won’t go hungry, children who walk for miles to carry water… They, too, are workers. And they are part of forgotten Peru.

Thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers and corporate allies, today we reach them with non-perishable food, emotional support, and empowerment programs. Because we believe that serving with love is also labor, and one that changes lives.

🌾 Our volunteers, full of compassion and commitment, travel to places where government aid never arrives. There, they deliver hope in the form of rice, lentils, pasta, canned goods, and warm clothing. They hear stories of abandonment, but also of resilience. And together with socially responsible companies, we generate real impact: we reduce hunger, fight malnutrition, and promote opportunity.

Today, on Labor Day, we want to thank every volunteer, donor, and company that joins our mission. Thanks to you, people living in abandonment have food on their plates. Thanks to you, there is a ray of hope amid despair.

🙏 We ask everyone reading this to join us. Donate. Share. Become part of the change.
There are still grandmothers sleeping without dinner. Children walking in hunger. Families whose only choice is hard labor to survive.

🌍 AGAPE HAND is a non-profit organization working in Peru’s most vulnerable areas, delivering food, empowering women through artisan crafts, reforesting communities, and fighting abandonment.

In the most remote corners of the world, where roads are dirt paths and access is nearly impossible, thousands of people live in oblivion. Elderly individuals, children, and entire families face hunger alone, without access to the basics needed to survive. At Agape Hand, we strive to reach them, bringing food, love, and hope. But we can’t do it alone.

The Harsh Reality of Those Living in Abandonment

Imagine walking miles just to get water or going days without a full meal. This is the reality for many rural communities, where extreme poverty is an everyday struggle. Without access to jobs, healthcare, or education, their fight for survival becomes increasingly difficult. In these places, help rarely arrives. No one sees them, no one hears them… until someone decides to act.

Reaching Where Others Cannot

At Agape Hand, we break through barriers of distance and neglect. We cross mountains, navigate difficult roads, and deliver food packages to those with no other option. Each bag of rice, beans, oil, and other essentials means a chance to endure, a day more with hope.

You Can Be Part of the Change

Hunger and need do not wait. Every day counts, every meal could be someone’s last. But with your help, we can go further and bring relief to those who need it most.

How Can You Help?

In a world where tons of food are wasted every day, millions of people continue to suffer from hunger. In Peru, this reality hits hardest in indigenous and rural communities, where access to adequate nutrition remains a challenge. At AGAPE HAND, we firmly believe that food is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.

Hunger in Forgotten Regions

Food insecurity is a pressing issue affecting thousands of families in Peru. In remote areas far from urban centers, access to fresh and nutritious food is a constant struggle. Extreme poverty, geographic isolation, and a lack of economic opportunities exacerbate this crisis. Many families survive on insufficient diets, impacting the health and development of children, who are the most vulnerable in these circumstances.

Our Mission: Bringing Hope in the Form of Food

Every day, the AGAPE HAND team, along with our dedicated volunteers and the support of compassionate businesses, works tirelessly to fight hunger in these forgotten communities. We rescue food in good condition, manage donations, and create support networks to ensure that every family receives the essential nutrients they need to live with dignity.

We do more than just deliver food; we also provide nutritional education, promote community gardens, and support local initiatives that foster self-sustainability. We believe in long-term solutions that empower communities and break the cycle of hunger.

The Impact of Solidarity

Every donation, every volunteer, and every effort makes a difference in this fight against food insecurity. Thanks to the contributions of individuals and businesses committed to the well-being of others, we have been able to feed hundreds of families and transform lives. However, the journey is long, and there is still much work to be done.

You too can be part of the change. Support our initiative, share our mission, and join us in bringing hope to those who need it most. Together, we can eradicate hunger and ensure that the right to food becomes a reality for all Peruvians.

High in the Andes, where the cold is relentless and life is a daily struggle, we found a woman who has spent years surviving in complete isolation. She lives alone, with no family to care for her, no resources for adequate nutrition, and the weight of the years reflected in her gaze. Her story is the story of many elderly people and children who never receive help, who are forgotten by society, and who face malnutrition with no hope for a better future.

💡 The Silent Hunger in Forgotten Communities

In the most remote areas of our country, the reality is heartbreaking. Elderly individuals who once worked tirelessly now face old age in extreme poverty. Innocent children grow up without access to proper nutrition, without opportunities, without hope for a better tomorrow. The lack of access to nutritious food not only affects their health but also robs them of their dignity and the will to carry on.

📌 Hunger is not just the absence of food; it is the lack of opportunities, support, and humanity.

When we arrived at this elderly woman’s humble home, her first reaction was not to ask but to give thanks. She was grateful that someone saw her, that someone cared for her, that someone reminded her that she still exists in this world. We provided her with food, warm clothing, and, most importantly, companionship. And in that moment, we understood that hunger is not only physical; it is also emotional.

📊 Thousands of Stories Like Hers

Her case is not unique. In every community we visit, we find similar stories: 🤦🏻‍♂️ Elderly people who go days without eating.
🥰 Children who grow up without access to proper nutrition, weakening their development.
🏡 Families who, due to lack of resources, must choose between eating one day or feeding their children the next.

📉 No one should live like this. No one should go hungry.

The good news is that together, we can make a difference. With every donation, with every person who decides to get involved, we can bring more food, more hope, and more opportunities. We cannot allow more elderly people to die of hunger in oblivion, nor more children to grow up without a future.

💙 You can help change a life today:
👉 Share this message so more people become aware of this reality.
👉 Donate food or resources so we can reach more communities.
👉 Become a volunteer and help us bring hope where it is needed most.

🌍 Change begins with a single act of kindness. A plate of food, a word of encouragement, an opportunity to live with dignity. Because hunger does not wait, and every day without help is another day of suffering for those who need us most.

📢 It’s time to act. Together, we can nourish not just bodies, but hearts.

In a remote corner of the Peruvian Andes, where the cold bites through the bones and poverty is part of daily life, lives Juanita, an 85-year-old woman whose daily struggle is simply to survive. With slow but determined steps, she walks more than 12 kilometers every day, hoping that someone will give her a little food. Sometimes she finds something; other times, she returns home empty-handed, her stomach rumbling with hunger.

“I have no family and no money, but I walk because I have hope. There is always someone who gives me a little bread or rice,” she says with a tired smile, full of faith. Juanita has lived a life of sacrifice, and despite her age, she continues to face hunger and hardship with extraordinary resilience.

But it shouldn’t be this way. No one, especially not an 85-year-old, should have to walk such distances just to find something to eat.

Juanita’s reality is not unique. Thousands of elderly people in rural communities across Peru suffer from extreme hunger, with no access to nutritious food or adequate support. Many have spent their entire lives working, only to find themselves in old age with no pension, no family to care for them, and no way to sustain themselves. They are invisible victims of poverty, forgotten by society.

At AGAPE HAND, we are committed to changing this reality. We work tirelessly to provide food to those who need it most, ensuring that elderly individuals like Juanita do not have to endure hunger or exhaustion just to survive. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help.

How can you help?

🔹 With just $1, you can help provide a meal for a vulnerable elderly person. 🔹 With $10, you can ensure they have food for several days. 🔹 With $20, you can provide a month’s worth of meals.

💛 Every donation, no matter how small, changes lives.

Imagine Juanita waking up tomorrow knowing she doesn’t have to walk miles just to eat. Imagine her feeling secure, knowing that she won’t have to go to bed hungry. That future is possible—with your help.

By supporting AGAPE HAND, you are not just donating food. You are giving dignity, hope, and relief to those who need it most. Your generosity can be the reason Juanita smiles today.

Today, you have the power to make a difference. Don’t let another day go by without acting. Donate now and be the change Juanita needs.

Building a World Without Hunger: 27,000 Plates of Hope

In the heart of the Amazon and the highlands of Peru, thousands of families face a silent yet devastating crisis: hunger. These indigenous and rural communities, isolated from basic services and government support, struggle daily to secure a meal for their children. At AGAPE HAND, we believe that no one should suffer from a lack of food, and we work tirelessly to change this reality.

Hunger in Indigenous and Rural Communities

Extreme poverty and lack of access to basic resources have turned hunger into a constant threat for indigenous communities in the Amazon and rural highlands of Peru. According to recent data, over 40% of children in these regions suffer from chronic malnutrition, affecting their physical and mental development. Unemployment, geographic isolation, and a lack of aid programs have worsened the situation, leaving thousands of families in a daily struggle for survival.

At AGAPE HAND, we understand that hunger is not just about the absence of food but also the lack of opportunities for a dignified life. That’s why we go beyond simple food distribution: we promote food security and self-sustainability programs to create lasting impact in these communities.

Our Mission: Feeding and Transforming Lives

Through our food bank, we provide direct support to families in extreme vulnerability. Our work includes:

Distribution of essential food: We deliver nutritious products to indigenous and rural communities at risk.

Education on food security: We teach communities about nutrition and sustainable food production.

Community empowerment: We work alongside local leaders to promote self-sustainability and improve living conditions.

“Before receiving help, my children went days without a full meal. Now they have food and hope.” – Rosa, beneficiary mother

Our commitment is clear: to eradicate hunger and bring hope to those who need it most. But we cannot do it alone. Your support is essential for this mission to continue.

How You Can Help

Contributing to this cause is easier than you think. Every donation makes a difference in the life of a family struggling with hunger. Here’s how you can help:

💙 Donate through Giveth: Your contribution will help more families gain access to essential food.

💙 Share our cause: Spread our message on social media so more people can learn about and support this initiative.

💙 Get actively involved: If you have resources or knowledge that can contribute to the well-being of these communities, contact us and join the fight against hunger.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

Hunger is a reality that we can eradicate if we work together. Every plate of food we deliver, every family we support, and every community we strengthen through our work is another step towards a hunger-free world.

📢 Don’t wait any longer. Every minute counts. Make your donation today.

High in the mountains, where extreme poverty and neglect are part of daily life, thousands of elderly people struggle to survive without access to food, medical care, or shelter. Hunger and malnutrition in the elderly are critical issues affecting many rural communities, where opportunities are scarce and help rarely arrives.

It fills us to feed because we know that a hot meal not only satisfies hunger but also provides hope, strength, and dignity to those forgotten by society.

Hunger in Old Age: An Invisible Crisis

In rural mountain areas, access to adequate nutrition is a luxury many cannot afford. Malnutrition among the elderly is one of the most alarming issues, yet it often goes unnoticed. Lack of resources, loneliness, and abandonment have made hunger a silent enemy that shortens the lives of many elderly individuals.

We met Matilde, a 70-year-old woman living completely alone in a humble adobe house. Every day, she faces extreme cold and food shortages. Her story is just one of thousands—elderly people abandoned by society, sometimes going days without eating or surviving on whatever little they can find.

When we gave her a hot meal, her eyes filled with tears. “I haven’t eaten well in days,” she told us with a trembling voice. Her story breaks our hearts, but it also drives us to keep helping.

More Than Food: We Bring Hope and Dignity

Our work goes beyond providing food. Every meal we deliver is a symbol of love and solidarity. It is proof that there are still people willing to help and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Feeding an abandoned elderly person is not just about giving them food—it’s about restoring their hope. It’s about showing them that they are not alone, that their life matters, and that someone cares about their well-being.

Cold and lack of food can be deadly for elderly people living in extreme poverty. That’s why, in addition to food, we provide warm clothing, emotional support, and companionship, because we know that loneliness also hurts and weakens.

How Can You Help Fight Hunger in the Elderly?

Our mission is made possible thanks to the generosity of people like you. There are many ways you can join this cause and help fight malnutrition in the elderly:

Make a donation: Your contribution allows us to bring more food and resources to those in need.

Join as a volunteer: If you want to experience the joy of helping firsthand, you can take part in our humanitarian missions.

Share this message: The more people become aware of this reality, the more support we can provide.

Every meal we serve represents a life that can change, a story that can continue. Let’s not allow more elderly people to suffer in silence.

💙 It fills us to feed because we know that every bite is a ray of hope. Join this cause and help us bring dignity to those who need it most.

📢 Donate, share, and be part of the change. Together, we can make a real impact.

Food waste is a global problem that affects the economy, the environment, and vulnerable communities. It is estimated that one-third of the food produced worldwide is wasted, while millions of people suffer from hunger. In this article, we will explore effective strategies to reduce waste and channel surplus food to those who need it most.

Causes of Food Waste

Food waste occurs throughout the supply chain, from production to consumption. Some of the main causes include:

  • Overproduction: Producers generate more than the market can absorb.
  • Aesthetic Standards: Perfectly edible fruits and vegetables are discarded for not meeting visual criteria.
  • Poor Storage: Lack of proper refrigeration and inadequate storage lead to rapid spoilage.
  • Household Waste: Poor shopping planning and discarded leftovers contribute significantly to the problem.

Strategies to Reduce Food Waste

1. Planning and Responsible Consumption

  • Buy only what is necessary and check expiration dates.
  • Store perishable products properly.
  • Use leftovers in new recipes.

2. Donating Surplus Food

  • Businesses and supermarkets can collaborate with Banco de Alimento Unidos por un Mundo Libre de Hambre de AGAPE HAND to donate food fit for consumption.
  • Restaurants and hotels can implement surplus food donation programs.

3. Community Initiatives

  • Promote urban gardens and food exchange networks.
  • Implement “solidarity refrigerators” where people can leave and take food freely.

4. Education and Awareness

  • Raise awareness about the importance of reducing waste.
  • Teach how to cook with near-expiry ingredients.
  • Encourage purchasing imperfect-looking products.

Impact of Channeling Food to Those in Need

Recovering food not only reduces waste but also:

  • Improves food security for vulnerable populations.
  • Reduces the environmental impact caused by food production and decomposition.
  • Promotes social responsibility and solidarity within the community.

Reducing food waste and channeling it to those in need is a key action in fighting hunger and caring for the planet. We can all contribute by adopting responsible habits and supporting initiatives that promote better distribution of food resources.

The harsh reality of our elderly: Grandma Juanita’s story

Deep in the mountains, where life is a constant struggle against the cold and indifference, we found Grandma Juanita. She lives alone in a crumbling adobe house. Her only warmth comes from worn-out blankets, and her only food—when she’s lucky—is what neighbors can spare. Hunger has weakened her body, and abandonment has dimmed her hope.

Like her, thousands of elderly people in the mountains and the jungle live in inhumane conditions. With no access to food, medical care, or anyone to care for them, their reality is a silent cry for help that few are willing to hear. They face winter without heating, without proper clothing, and without the strength to keep going.

AGAPE HAND: Bringing hope to those who need it most

At AGAPE HAND, we cannot look the other way. Every day, we visit the most remote communities, delivering food, warm clothing, and support to the elderly who have been forgotten. We ensure they don’t spend another day in hunger and despair. However, the need is growing, and our hands alone are not enough without your help.

Our mission is clear: No elderly person should die alone, hungry, and forgotten. But to achieve this, we need more people like you to join this cause.

Your help can change lives

🤲 With a donation, we can reach more elderly people with food and warmth.
🤲 With your voice, we can raise awareness and encourage more people to join this cause.
🤲 With your commitment, we can build a world where no elderly person is forgotten.

We cannot allow more lives to be lost in abandonment. You can make a difference.

Donate today and become the light that brightens the lives of our elderly.

📢 Share this message and be part of the change.

They gave us their effort, love, and wisdom. Now it’s our turn to care for them. 💙
