Caring for the elderly is a noble task that requires patience, empathy, and understanding. As our loved ones age, they may experience difficulty performing routine tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and even feeding themselves. This is where caregivers and family members can step in to assist and ensure that their loved ones receive the proper nutrition they need.

Feeding the elderly requires more than just providing them with food. It is essential to understand their dietary needs, preferences, and any medical conditions that may affect their diet. Here are some tips on how to help feed the elderly.

Plan Meals Ahead of Time

Planning meals ahead of time can help ensure that the elderly receive a balanced and nutritious diet. This can also help reduce stress for caregivers who may struggle with deciding what to cook each day. Meal planning can involve creating a weekly or monthly meal plan and ensuring that there is a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains in the diet.

Consider Dietary Restrictions and Medical Conditions

Many elderly individuals may have dietary restrictions or medical conditions that require them to follow specific diets. For example, some may need to follow a low-sodium or low-fat diet to manage their blood pressure or cholesterol levels. Others may have difficulty chewing or swallowing, which may require a softer or pureed diet. Caregivers should be aware of these restrictions and ensure that the meals they prepare are appropriate for their loved one’s needs.

Use Nutritional Supplements

In some cases, the elderly may have difficulty consuming enough nutrients from their diet. Nutritional supplements such as protein shakes or vitamin supplements can help provide the extra nutrients that their bodies need. However, it is important to consult with a doctor before adding any supplements to their diet.

Make Meals Social and Enjoyable

Mealtimes can be an excellent opportunity for socialization and connection with loved ones. Caregivers can make mealtimes enjoyable by setting the table nicely, playing music, or engaging in conversation. This can help the elderly feel more connected and involved in the meal, making it a more enjoyable experience.

Use Adaptive Equipment

Elderly individuals who have difficulty using utensils or have limited mobility may benefit from adaptive equipment. This can include special plates, utensils, or cups that are easier to grip and use. Caregivers can consult with an occupational therapist or speech therapist to determine what equipment would be most helpful for their loved one.

Provide Assistance, but Respect Independence

Finally, it is essential to respect the elderly’s independence while also providing assistance when needed. This can involve helping them prepare meals, cutting their food, or assisting with feeding. However, caregivers should also allow their loved ones to do as much as they can on their own to maintain their independence and sense of dignity.

In conclusion, caring for the elderly requires a thoughtful and compassionate approach, especially when it comes to feeding them. By planning meals ahead of time, considering dietary restrictions and medical conditions, using nutritional supplements, making mealtimes enjoyable, using adaptive equipment, and respecting their independence, caregivers can help ensure that their loved ones receive the proper nutrition they need while also maintaining their dignity and independence.

Covid 19 also called as Corona Virus has created fear in mind of all groups of people. Not only adults but also children mind is effected and gone in certain depression levels. People feel helpless and seek positivity to face this trauma.
We all can help each other and support our communities by various ways listed below. All we need is the hope to fight and be positive in every situation.

  • One of the simple way is reaching out to people we know. If one makes a list of people they know and start communicating with them and accessing their need, it can bring hope of living in the society. A friend or a relative may be suffering from anxiety or depression, but a call may be it is a video call or a phone call can improve his situation. Encouraging people to participate in social activities via online social groups in Facebook or other social media platforms can be helpful during tough times especially when everyone is facing isolation.
  • Another way of helping each other is by collecting funds or money for supporting people who are in need of medicines, food, housing and clothing. Supplying masks to every common man so that they remain protective is also a big concern. Creating awareness of maintain hygiene by washing hands or sanitizing should be taught to reduce the effect of virus.
  • Many people lost their jobs during pandemic. They had no money and were living in rented accommodations. So it is the collective efforts of all of us to encourage some practical skill trainings like sewing, cooking, painting, plumbing or basic computer skills organized by government or nonprofit organizations. Most developed countries had ordered landlords to avoid taking rent from tenants during pandemic. However, to serve humanity, it is our duty to help each other in growing financially and use talents for survival.
  • Blood blanks get shortage of blood groups. So every human who is capable of giving blood to these organizations should serve for the humanity as a common cause to save life.
  • We all should be connected together yet practicing social distancing. Until the pandemic is fully over, one should take care of all practices of social distances and wearing masks. Government also restricts the meeting of people at local gatherings or religious places and restaurants. So one should follow the guidelines of local government. In addition, those who are eligible for having vaccinations may get vaccinated.

HELPING THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY https://agapehands.org/helping-the-indigenous-community/ https://agapehands.org/helping-the-indigenous-community/#respond Fri, 25 Jun 2021 23:04:24 +0000 https://agapehands.org/?p=9377 In order to help these people, we have to work alongside the community, empowering and working with everyday leaders to help them shape and determine and create their own bright future.

They were always here, the original inhabitants, the custodians of our planet, they have lived on their ancestral lands in harmony, with nature for centuries. Their cultures are rich and diverse, they speak the majority of the world’s languages. Yes, they are the guardians of some of the Earth’s most precious resources and some of the most desired ones. The world’s 370 million indigenous people are among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations in the world. They are facing increasing pressures to exploit their ancestral lands and now it’s time for us to protect these indigenous communities.

WHY? Because in the past, we were the ones who disenfranchised, dislocated, and even forced these indigenous people into servitude. They’ve had their children stolen, and their wages stolen. They have even been punished for practicing their own culture and speaking their own language.

While in reality, they are the inhabitants, this is their country for 50,000 years and yet today they have no right to own land in their own community. And the sad reality is that the government has also been the perpetrator or complicit in many of these initiatives.

In order to help these people, we have to work alongside the community, empowering and working with everyday leaders to help them shape and determine and create their own bright future. Together, we have to look at what they want and equally importantly, what they don’t want.

WHAT THEY ACTUALLY WANT
• Parents and carers involved in their children’s education from birth.
• They want to learn together and give their children the best start to life.
• They want a curriculum that focused on culture, independence, and life skills.
• And most importantly, they want local jobs and training.

We know that it’s a challenge, a really big challenge, to make it happen. Getting funding for something new, innovative, and out of the box has never been easy.

But the idea that we could sit in our air conditions, city offices, and develop plans to address the issues in a remote indigenous community, is crazy. The idea that local leaders didn’t know or care about the challenges facing their community, is arrogant. Instead, we should address the challenges of these remote indigenous communities with long-term, sincere authentic engagement and work closely with the local community. Because despite generations of adversity and their current unbelievable hardship, we could see determination, strength, and pride in them. DETERMINATION to secure a better future for their coming generations, STRENGTH to carry on despite so many young deaths, and PRIDE in themselves and their culture.

And the good news is that there is a solution. We’ve to build authentic relationships, have trust in the knowledge and wisdom of the local community, and empower them as everyday leaders to shape and determine their own bright future. The challenge for us is whether we can make that change.

As Indigenous people always say, “We are not the problem, we want to be the part of the solution. We’re not against development, we want to be part of the development, but development on our terms.”

By protecting the rights of its custodians, we protect the future of our planet.

School Feeding Programmes are the most predominant social protection network in the world, nearly a lot of money is invested, reaching more than millions of schoolchildren worldwide  representing a huge public investment and broad coverage of the school population.

In Peru, SFP are explicitly incorporated into national food and nutrition security (FNS) policy frameworks and becoming part of national social protection policies and systems. At present, almost all places  in the country  are implementing SFP, and about thousands of children are given breakfast, a snack or lunch at school, which requires alot of funds.

Agape hands plays an important role in the fight against hunger and malnutrition in all its forms and contribute to ensuring the human right to adequate food for all schoolchildren. In addition, the NGO contributes to the right to a healthy life and quality education. These programmes have a potential effect on economic development at the national and territorial level and serve as a strategy to fight poverty and food insecurity. Through organized actions, within the NGO frameworks, a significant contribution can be made to the food and nutrition education of students, parents and school staff; and, therefore, to the necessary establishment of healthier eating habits and lifestyles The NGO makes it clear that no one is left behind. In the area of school feeding, this translates into a direct contribution to the fulfillment of different children and societies.
