Empowering Displaced and Refugee Women in Peru.

Empowering women, rebuilding futures.

Peru currently hosts more than 1.5 million refugees and migrants from Venezuela, representing nearly 20% of all Venezuelans who have been forced to leave their country since 2018. This makes Peru the second-largest host country of displaced Venezuelans worldwide, and one of the main humanitarian response hubs in Latin America.

In this context, AGAPE HAND Peru has developed an integrated humanitarian and development response across multiple regions — Lima, Tumbes, La Libertad, Puno, Tacna, Huánuco, Tingo María, Pucallpa, Junín, and the Central Amazon, as well as through mobile units along the northern border — providing comprehensive support to thousands of displaced families.

Our work focuses on strengthening the autonomy, safety, and dignity of refugees and migrants, while promoting their social and economic inclusion in host communities.
Through community-based and individualized support, we identify specific protection and livelihood needs, design personalized action plans, and facilitate economic empowerment, access to rights, and social protection.

In every story, we seek to transform vulnerability into opportunity — and displacement into a path toward self-reliance and hope.

Our Work

AGAPE HAND teams implemented a mobile and integrated approach to identify urgent and complex protection cases across multiple regions.
Through this strategy, we provided immediate assistance and specialized support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, individuals with severe health conditions, unaccompanied children and adolescents, and families facing extreme housing vulnerability.

Our food security, education, and child protection programs were coordinated within a comprehensive, multisectoral response, ensuring timely assistance, psychosocial support, and pathways toward empowerment for people at greatest risk.

This work reaffirms our commitment to dignity, resilience, and inclusion—supporting displaced and refugee populations while prioritizing those who face multiple and intersecting vulnerabilities.

Promoting Economic Empowerment and Self-Reliance

Through our economic empowerment programs, we strengthen the autonomy and resilience of refugees and displaced persons by ensuring access to safe and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Our goal is to enable each participant to earn a dignified income, develop productive skills, and actively contribute to the growth of their host communities — transforming humanitarian assistance into long-term, sustainable solutions.

Ending Violence Against Women and Girls

We work to ensure that all women and girls can live free from violence and reach their fullest potential. Our programs support survivors of gender-based violence, mitigate protection risks, and engage communities to build a culture of respect, equality, and lasting change.
